Joking at the tailor shop

October 18, 2015 by Teacher Jack in Kathmandu Nepal

Joking at the tailor shop
Balaju bypass, Kathmandu, Friday, October 16th, 2015

Protahn, Sangita, Buhlie, Noym, and Nabil at a tailor shop near Sona’s house.
I got into a joking match with Protahn which ended with him curling up and hiding beneath his counter giggling. Sweet, sweet people.

Sarada and Nirmala

October 01, 2015 by Teacher Jack in Kathmandu Nepal

Sarada and Nirmala
Niharika Shishu Kunja High School, Balaju Bypass, Kathmandu, Tuesday, September 29th, 2015

Sarada teaches the Nursury class at Niharika, while Nirmala moves from class to class as needed. I was talking to them about taking their photo together, but they needed a little convincing.
I really like the smiles in the candid "convincing" shot that I got (above).

Anu and Jyoti

Anu and Jyoti
Kathmandu 2003

I was buying a bag of fresh popcorn from a man's cart when Jyoti (on the right in the photo) said hello. She introduced me to her family and soon I was stopping by almost daily to play games of Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, and Fish.

Shanta laughing

June 16, 2015 by Teacher Jack in Kathmandu Nepal

Shanta laughing
Balaju Bypass, Kathmandu, 2011

Shanta’s classroom is a simple rectangle of concrete, with two open-air windows facing the courtyard, and a door made of sheet metal.

But even on the coldest days, there is the warmth;
of Shanta bahini standing, with her smile, at the front of her class.
Ready to give all of her energy to those children.
