Sobita

September 21, 2015 by Teacher Jack in Kathmandu Nepal

Sobita
Kathmandu, Monday, September 21st, 2015

My friend Sobita holding her families' new puppy, Bhotu (which means muscular or strong). Sobita is a teacher in a "lower secondary" school (which means that her students are children in grades 5–8). Sobita is quick to a smile and a laugh, and she and her husband have three lovely children with the same great quality.

Every time I try to showcase my Nepali dance moves to Sobita's family, this is the kind of response I get.

Asmi and Ramdevi, bohini and didi

September 05, 2015 by Teacher Jack in Kathmandu Nepal

Asmi and Ramdevi, bohini and didi
Kathmandu, June 18th, 2011

I stopped by a house where I had taken a family photo in the past. While Ramdevi (above in red) filled me in on some of the names that I hadn't gotten those many years ago, she herself is not in the older photo (which can be seen below).

Asmi and Ramdevi’s family, back in 2005 (or 2003). I believe that is Asmi in the pink.

Babu in a shop

September 04, 2015 by Teacher Jack in Kathmandu Nepal

Babu in a shop
Kathmandu, May 2011

Each day I pass this small shop, a storefront built much like a garage—complete with a metal shutter to draw down at closing. This day, the shopkeepers son [babu means young boy] stands on the counter and we exchange spirited hellos.
